Bíró Krisztina tudományos illusztrációi

Krisztina Biro (agricultural engineer, scientific illustrator) has been engaged in scientific illustration since 1970.

After graduating at University of Pannon she obtained her agricultural diploma in 1969. She acquired the master strokes of depicting plants from dr. Vera Csapody botanic plant illustrator. Since 1979 she is a member of the Hungarian Creativ Artist’s Society. In 1994 she has been registered at the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation (Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA), as being the 5th Hungarian member. Since 1971 32 exhibitions have been held from her picture. She was nine times awarded with the price called „Nivo” for her scientific book-illustrations. Krisztina Biro worked at the Plant Protection Institute of Pannon University in Keszthely (Hungary) until her retirement in 2004.

Up to the present (2021) more than 5600 scientific illustrations created by her have appeared in 344 books and articles int he following topics:

• botanical illustrations
• weeds, germs of weeds and seeds of weeds
• germination of cultivated plants and their early phenological phases
• cultivated plants, ornamental plants
• growth stages of ragweed
• microscopis picture of fungal pathogens and their symptoms on agricultural plants
• pests (insects) of agricultural plants and demages caused by them
• useful insects
• butterflies
• prehistoric plants and fossils
• anatomy of domestic animals
